From First Principles to the Test Bench

This practical short course offers hands-on training in RF and antenna design, simulation, and measurement techniques. It introduces the fundamental principles and tools used in modern RF systems and wireless communication — essential for careers in telecom, defense, and broadcasting sectors in Tanzania.

Course Content

The course shall include but not be limited to:

Basics of RF signals and components

Antenna theory and classification

Antenna parameters (gain, directivity, bandwidth, efficiency)

Transmission lines and impedance matching

Antenna simulation using CST or HFSS software

Antenna fabrication and testing (VSWR, return loss, radiation patterns)

Design of dipole, patch, and Yagi antennas

Introduction to Software Defined Radio (SDR)

Case study: community broadcasting antenna setup in Tanzania
